Memory

SANITY AND MADNESS

I looked into my mother's eyes,
and fell into the darkness;
child drowning into misery
of mind and self divided.
The flimsy hold we have on life,
is well reflected there;
reminder of the bright divide,
twixt sanity and madness.

BEING LOVED
There was a moment suddenly,
when I saw love's fair shape,
a drawing into passion;
a falling into hope.
It left me with a certainty,
which had not been before,
that fear and doubt are powerless
when trust maintains its course.

BECOMING A MOTHER
In sudden, shocked becoming
I saw your face revealed,
and birthed myself as mother;
empowered as woman healed.
Beyond that very moment,
there was no turning back
and always to remember,
the grace and strength I had.

  1. You are so darn fast. You must see and speak poetry all the time.

    Until I saw your moments, it hadn't occurred to me that the moments themselves will be interesting to see.

    1. I think any memory which stays with us vividly and teaches us must be interesting, if not profound and life-changing. And perhaps that is how it is meant to be. I also feel it is easier to let words flow if we are moved by something powerful and such memories are definitely powerful. I was talking to a painter friend today about this very thing - the way words flow and I wish the paint would do the same. But I do think poetically all the time and even with prose find myself writing in that way which is probably why I remain unpublished. Such writing is a little too 'dense' for this day and age.:)

  2. Your Being Loved is quite lovely. I was touched by them all but particularly that one.

    1. Thanks miskmask. I thought in my teens I would never love or be loved as it involves too much pain, but it came anyway and I consider myself blessed that it has remained and grown.

  3. We have written about very similar things: the instinct to mother, to care, to love. Granted, our memories are very different, but I must agree with your comment to Margo. When the memory remains vivid, there is a purpose, a reason, a focus, and often a lesson to be learned within it.

  4. All three are so full of truths...I love the brevity and the use of memory and emotional concepts to express these. Very well done.
