Mothering and blame

Why do mothers get the blame
in ways that fathers don't?
Perhaps because in mothering,
we learn to carry loads.
Our shoulders have been broadened,
our hearts made wide and deep,
to carry children's hurtings;
to share their pain and grief.
Why do mothers get the blame
in ways that fathers don't?
Perhaps because in mothering,
we choose to carry loads.
