Grief tore discipline to pieces
as heroic prophets fly,
and tears were stealing
patience with cruelty sublime.
The limits of life's gazing,
within the moment drawn,
broke brittle heart asunder;
and mocked a mind distraught.

Grief in brief... lasts much longer in reality...
ReplyDeleteYes it does Stan but I feel that there are moments of utter grief which feel like the poem.... one moves through those episodes or cameos of grief over a long period until the work is done and they are no longer needed.
DeleteHeart-wrenching. I congratulate you on being able to pack all the words in so short a space.
ReplyDeleteThanks Viv. As most if not all of us know, grief is heart-wrenching.
Delete'Broke brittle heart asunder" was a great line. More relevant if yours has at some time.
ReplyDeleteIf a poem could bleed this one would. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteDistraught minds are often mocked in this world, I'm afraid...
ReplyDeleteWhirling Glimpses
Grief defined in few words. Well done.

that's a really great poem on grief, well done
ReplyDeleteOh so sad. Lovely concise poem. I always admire the concise meaningful poems, (probably because I haven't got a disciplined brain cell to write them myself) :) Nicely whirled Roslyn.
