Light is made material,
in colour, shape and form,
substantial and ethereal;
all our food is born.
Consciousness in cherries,
cows and carrots too,
cornucopia brimming;
all for me and you.
Nature offers nourishment,
varied and sublime,
bringing us our nutrients;
all that is required.
Succulent the fruits,
tempting all that veg,
nothing can't be used;
everything so fresh.
So is life sure offered,
more than we can eat,
bounty to be gathered;
leaving us replete.

Oh I love the rhythm of this Ros.. somehow I think it should be sung, it has that lyrical sense.. hopefully with bounty there is something to be shared.
ReplyDeleteOh that's really nice, very enjoyable poem!
ReplyDeleteIt does have a nice easy rhythm. The opening stanza of light being made material is a great point, in that our food is nourished to maturity by the sun, so each bite is rather like a bite of sunshine.
ReplyDeleteSo true about the abondance you evoke at the end of your poem - at least this is true in the West.
ReplyDeletethe concept of photosynthesis is is amazing isn't it, except for mushrooms.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, we had a cherry tree nearby - and picking the cherries ripe from the tree, warmed by the sun and savoring them is a favorite memory this invoked.
Consciousness in cherries,
ReplyDeletecows and carrots too...
I love the playful alliteration here. Cherry season over here and I'm loving it!
So is life sure offered,
ReplyDeletemore than we can eat,

leaving us replete.
I loved the flow in this poem... so smooth.. so perfect! A delightful read :D
i once read in a book a peach described as fluid sunshine - i had to think of that when reading your poem - nature has so much to offer
ReplyDeleteBeautiful meditation on what gives us nourishment :)
ReplyDeleteLike Marina, I love the notion that there is a /consciousness/ in our foods, & that there is an interconnectiveness in all we are & what we consume. Well written, as the rhyme scheme did not draw much focus, it just become integral to the message.
ReplyDeleteOh.. the farm of life.. is a nutritional one..
ReplyDeletewhere all the pArts of heArt grow
as one SOUL OF Spirit of
US.. in seed of us as
all starts and ends..
WE are
the
Tree and
FREE
IN
LIFE..:)
Oh, there is such an abundance to choose from, isn't there? A cornucopia of pleasures. Your poem is a nice reminder.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it is, with nature, food can be plentiful and enough for all ~ I like the nourishment from nature, like a mother ~
ReplyDeleteI really like the rhythm in this, how it flows. I like the message of the consciousness that is in our food as well.
ReplyDeleteI find this to be very peaceful and soothing in a way. a gentle telling of how food is such a blessing
ReplyDeleteVery nice thankful poem. Peace, Linda
