In that moment when hope
screams hollow, lost for all
time, falling down into a
darkness which cannot be
imagined, and yet which is
always feared; hidden from
sight, but not thought; that
is when despair pegs itself
to the line of consciousness,
held in place, at the mercy
of the winds, and blazing
sun, for what seems eternity.

That seems like a good description of despair as a darkness that one remains conscious through without hope that the situation will end.
ReplyDeleteI have some memories of great despair and hope that I never revisit that place again. I suppose the fear is hidden...way back there in the back of my mind somewhere. Let's hope it stays there.
ReplyDeleteAn intuitive description of descent into despair. Only once in my life did I "run out of cope". You've described it well.
ReplyDeleteSometimes all we can do and what we must do is surrender.
DeleteSuch an evocative description of the feeling of despair.. sigh..
ReplyDeleteMaybe true despair is just before you reach the bottom... a dark poem today... love it
ReplyDeleteYes. A good friend said to me many years ago that the good thing about reaching the bottom was that the only way then to go, was up. She was right. And sometimes you have to reach bottom before you can do that.
DeleteTerrific Rosyln despair pegging itself - Perfect!
