I am always early,
arriving ready,
just in case, there is
a chance of being
late. Except for
when I was born:
three weeks over,
and yet, finally here,
and perhaps from
that day, always early,
as if to make up
for my tardiness.

I can marine your parents telling you this story.
ReplyDeleteI am always early, too, even for my birth! Such a sweet quadrille, Roslyn!
ReplyDeletethe early child trying to be the best at everything, like life was a mission to accomplish
ReplyDeleteI have been having trouble commenting. I enjoyed your poem.
ReplyDeleteI like your justification for now always being early.
ReplyDeleteTo make up for it... what a great idea. I love being in time, and I was born in time as well...
ReplyDeleteHa, I was three weeks late too, and I've never quite caught up! Good on you.
ReplyDeleteNice story. I love being early, rather than late.
ReplyDeleteMy son was 5 days late, but he's never tried to make it up and now he's 23. He can still dawdle with the best of them.
