Being is so hard to find,
because it hides in dim
places, where time and
mind muddle to make
real, to create that sense
which holds us in sure
ground; guides, protects
and binds us to self.
Being does not know
itself unless we draw
a shape, smooth the
edges, tidy the frayed
parts of soul, and call
upon our inner spirit
to know the truth of
who and what it is.
Being cannot be led
or directed, but only
enticed once we can
recognise that it exists,
beyond the ghostly
dregs and dross of who
and what we are, for
in those shaded realms
we are drawn into the
lap of endless being.
Poetics: Quality Poems | dVerse (dversepoets.com)
This has become a leitmotif in western culture, me, what I am, what I believe I am, being the most important idea in the entire universe. What we are, as you point out, should be about integrity. We seem to have reduced it to appearance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jane’s comment and the philosophy of your quality of being, Roslyn, especially in the lines:
ReplyDelete‘Being does not know
itself unless we draw
a shape…’
and
‘Being cannot be led
or directed, but only
enticed once we can
recognise that it exists’.
I love your thoughtful philosophical poem on being. We speak of human beings, and our well-being. It is who we really are minis the frills! Well done.
ReplyDelete"Being is so hard to find, because it hides in dim places"
ReplyDeleteYou've shone a light on the quality of being- a thought provoking poem.
Insightful, specially the second stanza. It is a personal journey and we all bear the scars and frayed soul from our experiences. And good to read you again Roslyn.
ReplyDeleteThere is wisdom in this, Roslyn... i appreciate reading your ponderings on "being".
ReplyDeleteEvocative poem that has got me thinking about my own concepts of what being and non-being are. Thank you, Roslyn.
